Quickstart
From zero to a boundary polygon in about a minute.
1. Get a key
Sign in at /dashboard with your email and create a key. It starts with geo_. The Free plan includes 1,000 units a month, no card. From a terminal you can do the same with:
npx @meterapp/geocode loginThen keep the key in an environment variable:
export GEOCODE_API_KEY=geo_…2. Find the boundary
Search is free and needs no key. Each result has an id like r62422, its kind, admin level and parents.
curl "https://geo-coder-service.vercel.app/v1/boundaries/search?q=Berlin"3. Get its polygon
One unit. The response is a GeoJSON Feature: drop it into Leaflet, MapLibre, PostGIS, QGIS or a notebook as-is.
curl "https://geo-coder-service.vercel.app/v1/boundaries/r62422?detail=medium" \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $GEOCODE_API_KEY"4. Next
- Tag a point with every boundary around it: reverse_boundaries.
- Check thousands of points against a zone: contains_points.
- Describe a zone in words instead: Areas.
- Give your agent the same tools:
claude mcp add --transport http geocode https://geo-coder-service.vercel.app/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer $GEOCODE_API_KEY"
